| Headbangers Ball I Review |
| The MTV2 Headbangers Ball Tour Shadows Fall Killswitch Engage Lamb of God Unearth 11/6/03 by Sharita Lumpkin It was indeed a full blown display of some of the most heavy hitting metal bands of today. From beginning to end the pits were full of metalheads young and old. UNEARTH hit the stage first, showing that they definitely are a force to be reckoned with. When you see and speak to Trevor he is very soft-spoken, calm. When he sings, his voice is earth-shattering and perfect for this young band. SHADOWS FALL has been around more than a minute and shows no signs of slowing down. Brian's vocals match his counterparts note for note. He remarked on how he was a little hurt from a recent injury but, he didn't show it jumping around the stage and whipping his long dreads for all to see. KILLSWITCH ENGAGE hit the stage next. With lead singer Howard Jones (no relation to the 80's one hit wonder keyboardist) showing his demonlike growls to his high-pitched screams, Killswitch seems to not have lost a beat with their latest addition. Howard seems to demand attention from the crowd and doesn't get weary from having to use his voice in two bands. LAMB OF GOD was the closer of the night. The crowd didn't seemed tired, crowd surfing and moshing as if Lamb came on in the beginning. Randy, who is a quintessential metal frontman, encouraged the crowd to mosh and "fuck shit up". I must also mention we had the pleasure of interviewing all the lead singers from all four bands which as alot of fun. I will post a transcript of this at a later date. UPDATE As of May 2004 On this website is a complete and total picture of all the lead singers and ALL of the interviewers at the conference. The people from Uranium webzine who cut Erika and myself out of the picture, and it was a pic taken with Erika's digital camera. When everything was all over, said and done, who do you think was standing behind Howard? That's right, no one! |
