Sevendust Another rousing show from the boys from Atlanta was enjoyed by all. The set seemed a little short but they were full of energy as usual. Mike and Dan from Disturbed attended this show as well. Probably me, my mates, and everyone else was asking where's David? Our vantage point was fabulous, we got to see Lajon in all his splendor and John actually singing and smiling a little. By the looks of this show, the boys are definitely proving despite settling down, becoming mostly clean and sober they have not lost their edge! -- Sharita L.
Ill Niño The boys from Ill Niño put on a good show as well. They were quite enregetic and lead singer Cristian Machado remarked that SEVENDUST were the coolest guys in the music business. Cristian seems to have his own style but does borrow a few traits from former Sepultura lead singer Max Cavelera. Ill Nino seems to fit perfectly with Sevendust. Two very high powered bands made the $28 dollar ticket worth every penny.--Sharita L.

Ill Niño Shakes the Foundation of the HOB 01/21/04 - (Chicago, IL @ HOB) -- by Karma E. Omowale Lead singer, Cristian Machado, runs to the edge of the stage and pumps up an already anticipatory crowd. Their set was short may have been short but it was the most rockin' 30 minutes I ever witnessed! Before one vocal was sung, through the mic expletives was hurled at the crowd demanding the legion of concertgoers move their asses. As the first song began, "How Can I Live? ", Cristian, along with the rest of Ill Niño, waved their fists purposefully into the air. The crowd went wild and was captured from that moment on. Heating up the crowd for headlining act Sevendust, the foundation of the House of Blues building seemingly shook as the crowd bobbed, swayed and jumped up and down to their infectious beats. The law of relativity was never so apparent: cause and reaction was in full effect! Coming into their own, in support of their latest effort and sophomore release, Confession, Cristian's personal and heartfelt lyrics of run deep making references to familial issues and life. The album contains their signature sound of anthem/hard rock tunes which is heavily influenced by Latin beats; however the band excels in melding the two genres like a spider weaving its web…masterfully. Ill Niño can be considered a breath of fresh air to the over saturated market of crappy "metal" bands in otherwise stifled airwaves of today's music. Not to lump them into a genre of other Latin infused metal acts such as Soulfly and P.O.D., Ill Niño sets themselves apart from the fold. Speaking of Soulfly, ironically enough drummer, Dave Chavarri, used to be a touring member with the aforementioned dynamo band. Nevertheless, getting back to the subject at hand, the band marries melody and raucous percussion with Cristian's soothing voice, which was demonstrated the on "Have You Ever Felt?" Without a blink of an eye, the band is able to switch from a power riffs to a beautiful ballad. In the effortless manner they do it in, it is not hard to believe it came from the same band. Staying away from the classic metal clichés, each song stood strongly on its own and musically differs from one another. Confession sounds much different from their first release, Revolution/Revolución, which was a strong building block for which they stand today. Naturally concentrating on performing songs from Confession, they also managed to squeeze in a couple of hits from Revolution/Revolución. Their set was tight, damn near awe-inspiring!! The band commanded the attention of all, including myself! What a site to see, a sea of fans showing their admiration by throwing up the devils horns and singing along with the band. Fun was had by all; even those that weren't previously moving around caught the Ill Niño fever as well. The show was an experience…a spiritual journey, if you will. Listening to Cristian's soulful lyrics forces you to look within at your own personal and inner demons. They are definitely a unique act all unto themselves. When Cristian speaks, you have no choice but to listen. Setlist Te Amo…I Hate You Unframed All The Right Words How Can I Live? Lifeless…Life What Comes Around If You Still Hate Me Have You Ever Felt? This band fits each other like a glove; it is just hard to imagine that they there are 2 new members since the hit the big time. The two new members are comprised of seasoned veteran and ex-guitarist, and friend of the band, Ahrue Luster and filling the percussionist position is Danny Couto, used to jam with Jardel Paisante, guitarist, back in the days of yore before Ill Niño. This unit is tighter than a pensive virgin at a Motley Crüe concert back in the day. Speaking of tight, producers Chavarri and Bob Marlette (Saliva and Black Sabbath) did a wonderful job on the production side, which translates well on stage. Ill Niño seems to feel at home being in direct support of Sevendust and Element Eighty. According to audience response, both verbal and with the amount of devil's horns flying, one can only believe that they were successful in winning over some new fans! This tour is bound to get the band noticed and gain some much-deserved attention. Thanks Guys! Be sure not to miss Ill Niño on their next leg of their tour, which they are headlining for a short while. This particular tour starts after the close of the Sevendust tour. Then they will be in direct support of Flaw. Treat yourself or someone else because Ill Niño is a MUST SEE, especially if you consider yourself a connoisseur of hard rock/metal. In fact, shame on you for not seeing them before now. The band toured for the most part of 2 years supporting Revolution/Revolución. After seeing them, you will find a reason to cause a revolution and join the hordes of fans that already "feel" what I am saying.
