Interview

Karma: Here’s a quick Speed Round Questions for you.

Nergal: [Smiles] Okay.

Karma: What's your mantra?

Nergal: Perfect, perfect, perfect! [we all laugh]

Karma: Live or dead, if you could host a dinner party of 5 who would you invite?

Nergal: A Party? [Smiles]

Karma: Um-huh.

Nergal: Glenn Danzig, Elvis Presley, Julius Caesar, Cronos from Venom [Conrad Lant], and maybe Mussolini. I believe in stylin’, you know…good conversation and company!

Karma: Guilty pleasure song/CD/artist Like you were saying earlier, Johnny Cash.

Nergal: [Laughs and nods head] Johnny Cash. I just bought his box set that just came out and I can’t wait to get back home to and just putting it in my CD player. I never listen to music when I’m on tour because I am just so distressed by everything around me, I just want to be in silence.

Karma: Highlight of your career on/off stage?

Nergal: Still to come.

Karma: First industry job?

Nergal: I’ve never had any work or any job, this is it. Have I ever worked anywhere?

Karma: Sure.

Nergal: No never. [Laughs]

Karma: Wow! First CD ever purchased.

Nergal: Maybe Bathory Hammerheart

Karma: If you could collaborate with anyone, whom would you collaborate with?

Nergal: Glenn Danzig, Cronos [Laughs]

Karma: How do you view death?

Nergal: I don’t, I’m still alive and I feel fine with that. I don’t really spend my time on these topics lately because I have never felt so alive and so thankful so I don’t want to think about darker shades of life. [Laughs]

Karma: That’s good!! How ‘bout your favorite TV show?

Nergal: [American] Idol!

Karma: Nicknames that your best friend would give to you on the fly?

Nergal: For me?

Karma: Yeah.

Nergal: Pigeon.

Karma: Pigeon?

Nergal: Yeah, there’s a story behind it but I’m not gonna tell you! [We all laugh]

Karma: Fair enough! What's your favorite curse word?

Nergal: Kurwa... Now try to spell it. [Laughs hysterically]

Karma: Yeah no shit!

Nergal: You’re from Chicago, there’s many Polish speaking people here so you’re gonna have no problems!

Karma: [Actually I did have a problem with translation, I couldn't find a person who spoke Polish before this story went to print] If you could commission another band to do a cover of your favorite song, which one would it, be and which band would do the cover?

Nergal: There’s one that was done already, and that was Johnny Cash covering Nine Inch Nails.

Karma: Oh! [Smiles]

Nergal: Yeah! It was the perfect song actually!

Karma: Now one of your songs.

Nergal: Morbid Angel, “Sculpting The Throne ov Seth”, let’s see how they’d do! [Laughs]

Karma: No that would be really interesting! How many candles did you blow out on your last birthday and on which date?

Nergal: I’ve never really done this before?

Karma: You’ve never really blown candles out on your birthday?

Nergal: No, no, my parents never really did this for me because it was never really a tradition in my family. Now there’s too many to blow out!!

Karma: Which day?

Nergal: 10th June, 77

Karma: What did you grow listening to?

Nergal: Polish crap heavy metal music and then some Glenn Danzig, Van Halen, Maiden and Motley Crüe, that kind of junk.

Karma: If you could travel the spans of time which era would you visit?

Nergal: Ancient Rome

Karma: I see you there! If you could take a bath with anyone who would be your perfect bath mate?

Nergal: Angelina Jolie!

Karma: You have a choice of 5 CD's to comprise your Bubble Bath Soundtrack. Which is rather funny considering she’s on TV right now! [A movie of her was ironically playing on the TV in the backstage area]

Nergal: I know! [Laughs] Danzig II: Lucifuge, Nick Cave [& The Bad Seeds] Let Love In, Morbid Angel Domination, Deicide Legion, and Venom Black Metal. That’s 5 right?

Karma: Sure was! Well thank you Nergal for the interview!

Nergal: Thank you!
