Wrapping up their tour with The Red Chord, Dead To Fall, and The Acacia Strain, North Carolina's Between The Buried And Me are now heading out on the Revolver Magazine Tour with The Black Dahlia Murder, Cephalic Carnage, and Into The Moat for an exciting fall tour across the nation. This all happens prior to their  new release, Alaska, which hits the shelves on September 6th. Here, lead singer Tommy Rogers, writes about the interesting lyrical topics he pens, the tour with Black Dahlia, and the differences between all three albums.

Q: Was the writing for The Silent Circus a lot different from the self-titled album?
A: Not really, we had less time to write. Different guys were involved in the process.

Q: The song "Camilla Rhodes", which you say is "about the sexual imagery in music" and "how much you disagree with it". Why did you name the song as such, specifically was she a person in someone's life?
A: It’s from the movie "Mulholland Drive" and you'll have to see it to understand the meaning. I'll put it this way, David Lynch is a weird dude.

Q: The song "The Need For Repetition" is about the church and child molestation. Are you religious or raised in the church and what do you think must be done to stop the molestation by catholic kids?
A: Personally, I'm not religious at all. The only way to stop anything is to be aware and learn what your kids are getting involved in even if you think its positive just from its reputation.

Q: Lyrically speaking, since two of your songs are regarding children, do you have any yourself?
A: No.

Q: What other bands have the members been in besides Prayer For Cleansing?
A: From Here On, Glass Casket, Undying, and Giles.

Q:
Who came up with the idea of putting song explanations on the site? I think that's awesome.
A: I did. I just want people to understand what I'm writing about.

Q: What are the major differences between Alaska and all of your previous releases?
A: This was the first record we've written that was a huge group effort. It was amazing experience and all the new guys and amazing ideas. Each person has their own style and putting these styles together produced a very unique record in my opinion. In the past we just focused on being super brutal and writing complicated songs, where as now we're more worried about writing a quality song, that at times is crazy, but it always feels comfortable.

Q: Why did you decide to work with Matthew Ellard and Jaime King for Alaska?
A: On this record we wanted to work with friends. Both guys are amazing and we've always wanted to mix the two and see what happens. We are very pleased with the sound and our main concern was clarity. We wanted to make sure you could hear everything that is going on. I feel we didn't achieve this on the Silent Circus.

Q:
Why did you decide to call the new album Alaska?
A: It’s a very different place. There is no place in the world like it. The idea of a place you can get away to and start over in life.

Q: What's your favorite song off the new album and why?
A: “
Selkies:The Endless Obsession.” I feel it showcased everything we've ever done as a band. It goes from every extreme but it feels totally natural throughout and of course the epic guitar solo at the end.

Q: Are there any deep meanings to the songs on this album like there was for Silent Circus?
A: Yes, lyrically this record is fairly similar to the
Silent Circus, very personal thoughts about things, basically a continuation of how my brain works.

Q: What are your future plans past current tour?
A: We're getting ready to leave on tour with The Black Dahlia Murder, Cephalic Carnage, and Into The Moat. It’s going to be amazing. We are just going to tour our asses off, make up for our down time this year. Thanks for the interview!

We'd like to thank Tommy for the interview and to Victory Records for setting it up.
