If you think we are misandrists or copycats you've got thing another coming because unlike most outlets, FourteenG paid homage to Women in the Industry with our feature "Chicks With Picks" which has been in existence since our inception. Never have we singled out a specific issue towards something as monumental as this...in essence how can you? With our new renamed feature "Brutal Beauties" it is a way for us to highlight the accomplishments of our contemporary metal mavens accenting their brutality and beauty, these femme fatales do not mess around when it comes to their careers and setting their collective sights on global domination. The biggest lesson learned is you cannot leave chance up to fate as these women have taken the reigns of fate into their own hands, driving their respective chariots to glory through sheer perseverance. Double Horns High Ladies! -- Karma E. Omowale

This is the second in the Chicks with Picks series where we are featuring our own pictorial by ace photographer Erika Kristen, some hall of fame photographers (Vivianne J. Odisho and Kimisha L. Pierce), as well as a collage of our female faves new and old. We are also proud to reveal the Up and Coming pictorial featuring the bands Roullette, Curse Icon, Deconstruct, Cockpit, Haunted By Angels, and Broadzilla...

Women are becoming even more active in the hard rock/metal scene. It's exciting to see female fronted bands, Doro Pesch, Arch Enemy, Sabina Classen, Epica, Leaves' Eyes, Otep, After Forever, Walls of Jericho, Lacuna Coil, Therion, Nightwish, Crisis, Suicide City, Grigori 3, and many more breaking down the barriers of the male dominated world of metal! Women are more than just pretty faces, we have proven through the years that we can be just as talented, charismatic, and powerful as men. All Hail!     \m/

Debunking the Myth:

Allow us to clear something up for all of the naysayers who believe that women don't belong in this genre or the ones that are, do not take their roles seriously. I for one can say that the vast majority of the women in rock/metal right now do. Many women like Liv Kristine (Leaves' Eyes), Karyn Crisis (Crisis), Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy), Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil), Johanna DePierce (Amaran), Kristian Niemann (Therion), Rachel Rosen (Most Precious Blood)... These women are not fucking around busying themselves with trying to be sex symbols; they are legitimate, intelligent and shrewd businesswomen whom possess talent not resting on the laurels of their feminine wiles. The aforementioned are at the top rung of heavy hitters in the metal scene today or shall I say they are on a higher plain, a higher echelon of artists to emerge on the scene than the ones with the normal sex kitten image. Grant it there are a lot of "posers" dare I use the word but we cannot account for all, there will always be those who will misuse and abuse the opportunities that are afforded to them.

Last but not least, for some strange reason being in the press, we tend to get a bad rap if we are seen with bands on our off time. Ever stop to think that we're just doing what people do normally...socialize? Wanting to TALK to the band?!? Or better yet, perhaps bands want to talk to us!  Believe it or not, I am here to report THEY ARE PEOPLE TOO, people who would like to be human and not always feel that they have to be "on" when they are not on stage. We ALL need our downtime and who better to conversate with than those with common ground?!?!

Okay, just wanted clear that nonsense up!
