The Metro was half empty but the anticipation was high for tonight's headlining show featuring an all-star outfit called Dark New Day. Vocalist Brett Hestla, Clint and Corey Lowery, respectively on guitar and bass, along with Troy Mclawhorn on guitar, and Will Hunt on drums. All were key players in their respective bands like Stereomud, Stuck Mojo, and Sevendust.

With Sevendust being the most widely known of all the bands, questions were raised whether Clint can survive without them and vice versa. After his departure, Clint did little to no interviews with anyone to talk about his sudden decision and even after the holiday neither side was talking about anything. All anyone knew was Dark New Day had a brand new album due out in a couple of months from Warner Bros and are starting their first tour with a live taping tonight here in Chicago. I had heard that Clint’s new project supposedly made him happier as of late. From the looks of things, all the other members were happier than him.

Throughout the forty minute set, the fans cheered and swayed along too all of Dark New Days tunes. Corey and Troy were hamming it up for the cameras and Brett was dancing around moving and grooving to the music. I was looking for a burst of excitement from Clint but I did not see anything out of the ordinary. Will displayed the same Morgan Rose like antics and it sounded a lot like Sevendust but the crowd attendance proved that this was definitely not a Dust’ gig.

Before the show, I thought that many if not all of the Sevendust faithful would be out to support Clint, apparently the fans are taking the same attitude as him; say nothing. Still, I though DND put on a good show and I wish them nothing but the best, however, I think that Clint will realize the mistake he made. It is great to play with your family but why leave a good thing to join something uncertain. Sure, Sevendust’s future was uncertain too, but at least the band has been around for years and has built a solid following.
