| THE AMERICAN APATHY TOUR Dope Mushroomhead 12/19/2004 HOB Reviewer: Sharita Lumpkin |
| New York based quartet Dope took the stage for their headlining tour well recieved by the mostly young, rebellious, teen crowd. Edsel Dope, the groups singer and ring-leader whipped the crowd into a frenzy with his controversial lyrics as well as the constant call for the crowd to "fuck shit up". Edsel would even comment on last month's election saying how stupid America was, for re-electing the jerk into office. This concert would not be for the easily offended, with songs like "Bitch", and "Burn", they would also play songs like "No Way Out" , "Motivation" and "I Am". Clearly the kids were into it, moshing and crowd surfing everytime he called for it. Although I never considered myself a big fan of this band, I must give it to them for putting on a great show. Their mix of hard rock and industrial is very infectious and catchy. I particularly like "Bitch" with the chorus of the one of "The one I love, I hate but the sex is great..." off of the American Apathy album. Even though I don't support their thoughts on legalizing drugs or the fact that they actually sold drugs to produce their earlier albums, I think that a Dope show would be well worth the price you pay for it. |

| "Mushroomhead Sets the Scene for the Headliner!" |
| Mushroomhead has been through tough times lately with the departure of their singer JMann to the news that J-Records dropped them. However, that didn't stop the originators of the masked- metal man gimmick from setting the stage for Dope. Mushroomhead may be from Cleveland, but that didn't stop them from bringin' the crowd to its feet at the venue. An abundance of Mushroomhead shirts were in the audiendce, some on young kids but mostly on people closer to my age group; seemingly, Mush had the place rockin' and the fans sung along to favorites like "Sun Doesn't Rise" as well as Seal's "Crazy" which was a hit in my book. The bands new lead singer Waylon didn't miss a beat with his new mates. Waylon comes from 3 Quarters Dead, a band from North Carolina. Even though any Mush fan will miss JMann, they can't argue with Waylon as a good replacement. The highlight of the night was Mushroomhead including a snippet of "Purple Rain" by Prince in their set. The crowd was a little miffed as was I, but enjoyed it nonetheless. Other songs performed were "One More Day" and "Our Own Way" from the Mushromhead XIII.
