The main point with a DVD...is to experience the show visually, to feel the atmosphere and the spirit from both the crowd and the band.

Dark Funeral has been deemed of the most highly regarded and brutal black metal acts known around the world. When you hear the name, you envision blast beats, savage guitar riffs and shrieking black metal vocals. They've been through several lineup changes and still have been able to keep the intensity that is Dark Funeral. “Attera Orbis Terrarum Part 1” Shows their tour throughout Europe with footage of the band and fans backstage. “Attera Orbis Terrarum Part 2” shows footage of their tour in Latin and South America and footage of part of their tour in North America as well. Dark Funeral is one of my favorite bands and I am honored that Lord Ahriman took the time to answer some questions with me! If you are a true fan of Dark Funeral then you will go pick up a copy of both DVDs now!

Kate: What was it like filming “Attera Orbis Terrarum Part 2”? What can fans expect to see on the DVD?

Dark Funeral Attera Orbis Terrarum Pt 1 DVD

Dark Funeral Attera Orbis Terrarum Pt 2 DVDLord Ahriman: The DVD features two killer shows (Buenos Aires/Argentina & Sao Paulo/Brazil) at was professionally filmed & recorded during our amazing tour throughout Latin America [Sep/Oct 2006]. And not only that, it also includes tons of amateur/fan footage shot during our tours throughout North America [1997-2007] and South America [2003-2006].

Kate: Besides it being filmed in South America instead of Europe, what are some differences between Part 1 and Part 2?

Lord Ahriman: Since both DVD´s was shot during the same world-tour, the tracklist is naturally pretty much the same, yet there’s a slight difference, especially on the massive bonus part. However, the main point with a DVD, at least for me, is to experience the show visually, to feel the atmosphere and the spirit from both the crowd and the band. And that’s something both DVD´s offers deluxe! And besides that, what the 2 DVD’s offer is quite unique in a way. It gives you a chance to follow us throughout the world; it gives you a chance to experience the metal scene in another continent among many other things.

Kate: Is there more of a following there compared to Europe?

Lord Ahriman: We sure bring a bigger crowd to the shows in South America, but I would guess that we sell more records in Europe so….

Kate: How is the metal scene different in South America compared to Europe?

Lord Ahriman: Well, it’s hard to explain. You really have to experience it yourself to truly understand it, but in general. The South American audience is way more dedicated and crazy (in a good way) compared to the Europeans.

Kate: Is there a new album in the works?

Lord Ahriman: Yes. We have a couple of new songs that’s are 90-98% finished, but it’s still a hell of a lot of work until a whole new album is completed.  Looking at what’s written so far. It is for sure our most melancholic material yet, but it’s still too early to predict what the final result and vibe will be alike. So be patient…

Kate: You've been through many lineup changes, has it taken a toll on the band at all?

Lord Ahriman: No, we never really had any problems with that. It’s just t accept the fact; begin to look for a replacement. And then continue as scheduled with the already set up plans. No time or reason to dwell in the past, only look forward.

Kate: Where do your influences for your songs come from?

Lord Ahriman: As always I just follow my own inner demons when I write music.

Kate: What are some of your proudest moments in Dark Funeral, what do you look back on and are proud you've achieved?

Lord Ahriman: Hard to say, but if we wouldn’t have left our former label, No Fashion/MNW, at the time when we did, I’m honestly not sure if we would have existed as a band today. And looking at where we stand at this point, it was definitely one of the wisest decisions we have taken during our 15 years of existence. And it’s something to be proud of I think.

Kate: Do you think you send any type of message to your fans through your music?

Lord Ahriman: Sure, I know that people find and pick out many different messages from our songs, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that they adopt the same message as we’re sending out which is a whole different story.

Kate: What are some of your craziest tour memories?

Lord Ahriman: Wow, that´s hard to say. It also depends on what you really mean with “crazy”? We’ve been touring for nearly 13 years now and there’s of course always a lot of “crazy” things going on you know.

Kate: Favorite bands you've toured with? What are your favorite tracks to play live?

Lord Ahriman: It’s always a pleasure to tour with Cannibal Corpse, Naglfar and Endstille to mention a few.

Kate: Are you planning on touring more after the album are released?

Lord Ahriman: Sure, as soon as we have a new album out. We’ll begin a whole new world-wide touring cycle.

Kate: Any words for your fans?

Lord Ahriman: Make sure to check out our new DVD, or even both, if you’ve missed the first one. I’m sure you’ll dig them! Stay tuned for news concerning our next album, which we’re working on right now. It’ll be a killer for sure. Other than that, if you’re looking for new DF merch we have opened up an official online webstore at www.diaboliswear.com. Check it out! See you soon on tour!
