Longtime FourteenG friend and fan, Antony Hämäläinen, has finally found a place to called home. New found vocalist for the Swedish/Greek death metal outfit Nightrage. Truly being given ‘the opportunity of a lifetime’, Antony has his work cut out for him. In between an ever revolving door of lineup changes and a new release on Lifeforce Records, A New Disease is Born, Antony is ready to make his mark in the metal community. He grants his very first interview to us! In this interview we discuss Mr. Hämäläinen's rise to fronting the band, his ever dying allegiance to Marios & Nightrage...not to mention an unprecedented Speed Round is resurrected per Antony's request!

Speed Round Questions

What’s in your iPod?

Over 10,000 songs, but the new Smaxone is really good. And of course the essential At the Gates, Slayer, and Napalm Death etc. etc.

I cannot live without…

Music.

In your spare time when you’re not fronting the band, what else do you do for a living?

I own a clothing store in Arizona. Takes up a lot of time.

Creation or evolution?

Evolution.

Most valuable lesson you’ve learned about self whilst being in Nightrage.

I can actually do this.

Name a CD your played until it disintegrated…

Dimmu Borgir’s Spiritual Black Dimensions.

How would your best friend describe you? And then from your arch nemesis’ perspective.

Best friend would maybe say stubborn. Arch nemesis would say the same thing.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Reading thoughts.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would that be?

I wouldn’t change anything. Because then I wouldn’t be me.

When you were younger, what did you see yourself doing career wise?

What I am doing now.

Guilty pleasure song/CD/artist?

HIM.

Introvert or extrovert.

Extrovert.

What pisses you off and what ignites your passions?

Insincerity pisses me off and dedication ignites me.

How many languages do you speak? And if you would choose another to learn, which language would that be?

English, Finnish, moderate French and Greek. I would learn Swedish but I already know the superior Scandinavian language ;)

Haha Very funny! ;^p Top five bands/musicians?

At The Gates, Slayer, W.A.S.P., Death, Stone / Nick Barker, Marios Iliopoulos, Roope Latvala, Tomas Lindberg, Dio.

Favourite Finnish word.

A couple of typical ones that I yell when I’m angry like Vittun Paska (fucking shit!) or Saatana (satan)!

Favourite Finnish pick up line.

This is what I would ask “kuunteletkos paljon metallimusaa??” (do you listen to black metal?)

Type of music you dislike the most.

Classic rock.

If Nightrage were a cocktail, what kind of drink would it be?

A really gross shot of koskenkorva, Absolut, Ouzo, and Duvel beer.

Comfort food and favourite drink?

Lohikeitto (which is like salmon soup) and a Carlsberg.

Last experience with déjà vu?

I think it was in Denmark.

Are you a daredevil?

Only on stage.

Heels or flip-flops?

Shoes.

If you were captain of the drinking party Olympics, who would be on your team and who would be your opponent(s)? Would you win?

This would be my team: Olof Morck, Alexi Laiho, Melissa (my girlfriend), and Matt Melanson (Bodom’s previous merch guy). The opponents can be who ever dared to get alcohol poisoning trying to beat us.

Favorite hangover cure?

Straight vodka.

First music you remember hearing in your house?

W.A.S.P.

Which tattoo/piercing means the most, where is it located and why?

On my left wrist I have the word “Viha” tattooed. Which in Finnish means “hatred”. And that’s kind of my own personal thing for myself. To just remember times in my life where I just hated everything.

What mark would you like to leave on the world of metal?

Just to always keep it real. No compromise and only make real extreme music for real extreme people.

Paljon kiitoksia Antony!

Ole hyvaa!

Again, thanks Antony for sharing in history and giving us the opportunity. We look forward to your band spreading their disease to the masses!
