| "Dillinger Escape Plan is Highway Robbery indeed" by Karma E. Omowale I luckily had an escape plan, interviewed Zao during the majority of Dillinger's set. Knowing full well if I had seen the entire show, I would have been clamoring for the nearest exit! Perhaps I am spoiled with the recent influx of talent that has graced the airwaves via Headbangers Ball, Music Choice and/or Fuse...so maybe this is why I cannot appreciate Dillinger Escape Plan. Scr(emo) is a different monster; some acts are good (36 Crazyfists) and some are just downright bad (in which I do not need to mention names). It's just rude when all a band does is scream over their own instrumentation. Why drown the band out unless they suck too, that's why I don't get Dillinger. Their music's not half bad, despite the nose on my face I love "Highway Robbery"! It's catchy, it caught me and I am none to pleased to be quite honest. However, live this band is atrocious. You cannot hear anything but cacophonous noise from the bass/drums/guitar and then to add to the fold, the shrieking vocals of Greg Puciato. The one thing I will say is that I thoroughly enjoy their videos. They are ingenious, a product of Dale Resteghini noless! Their shows are wild because Greg and co. never sit still. Beware if you tend to drink a lot, the constant movement may cause severe nausea! Obviously kids like this stuff...just bring your earplugs and patronize the bartenders and prepare yourself for a long night next go round!! |

| Every Time I Die "Not Exactly Talented But Fun Nonetheless..." by Sharita Lumpkin Keith Buckley from Every Time I Die is indeed a front man that gets the crowd hyped for their set. They opened the show with some sound problems, but the crowd was patient and ready for their first tune. They enjoyed the set from beginning to end with the band playing such tunes as “Ebolarama” and their hit single “I've Been Gone A Long Time” complete with the cowbell. These are the only tunes of the set that excited me since they are my favorite. During the set, I realized that not only are they not as skilled as some other bands but, their talent lies solely on the shoulders of Keith. He may not be able to hold a tune, but he gets the crowd going. His screams and lyrics are not new to fans of hardcore, youth core or whatever you call it. They are reminiscent of many of the post hardcore, punk singers of old. So for all intense purposes, the band pays homage to their heroes while giving the kids what they came for. |
| "Zao Mix of Thrash, Speed and Death Worth the Price of Admission." by Sharita Lumpkin Amid the constant lineup changes, Zao managed to pull off an incredible set tonight. Daniel's vocals display power that can be likened to All That Remains vocalist Phil Labonte or Slayer's Tom Araya. The bands mix of thrash, speed, and death metal is definitely unique, leading music purists to ask what genre is Zao? The answer is their own. "The Funeral of God" is their latest release. They performed "Breath of the Black Muse" and "War Machine" from that album. The musicianship of the band is tight proving that the adversity that faced the band the last few years has not destroyed the legacy of Zao. The crowd seemed to be into a couple of songs especially "Savannah" and "Skin Like Winter." Ultimately, Zao has a bright future ahead of them.
